  Dark Desire: Earning Hope’s Submission

Hope Tyler had married the man of her dreams--the stern-faced sheriff of Desire, Oklahoma.

She loved him, and his dark desires, but feared that surrendering herself completely to him would lead to him becoming bored with her, so she challenged him at every opportunity.

Ace Tyler understood his wife’s fears, probably better than she did. He’d discovered her need to submit completely, and understood her reluctance to do so, but knew, deep down, that neither one of them would be completely happy until they each gave in to their own needs.

Her demands, and an ultimatum that sent him reeling, handed him the perfect opportunity to set his plans to earn a deeper submission from her in motion.

Dominant in ways he never had with her before, he led her deeper into the world of erotic pleasure, and to a closeness that each of them desperately needed.

  Chapter One

Ace Tyler pulled into the driveway of his house and cut the engine, looking forward to spending the next several days alone with his wife. Grabbing his hat from the seat next to him, he got out and walked up the steps to his front door, his cock already stirring at the thought of the days and nights ahead.

He’d spent the last several hours writing reports and had gladly turned Lucas, Devlin, and Caleb’s case over to the state police.

He loved his position of Sheriff of Desire, but God, he hated paperwork.

Desire, Oklahoma, was a small, usually quiet town, and it was his job to keep it that way.

It was his town, and he guarded it zealously.

Relieved that Logan James, one of Desire’s residents and a good friend, had left the hospital and the head of the drug cartel who’d tried to kill Logan’s sister, Stormy, was safely behind bars, he shook off the last of the tension, determined to focus on his wife.

For several weeks, he hadn’t been able to give Hope the attention she deserved, and he intended to make up for it.

He knew his wife well enough to understand that the last several weeks had been very difficult for her, and she’d been even more excitable than usual.

She needed to settle again, and he hoped that a week spent thinking about nothing except pleasure would help.

He also hoped that he would be able to take their relationship to a deeper level, one he’d been edging her toward since they’d become lovers.

When she let her passions overtake her, she was nothing short of magnificent, but her preoccupation with submitting to him while holding on to her pride made getting to the next level almost impossible.

Addressing her fear that letting go would make him think less of her had proven unsuccessful, and he blamed himself.

She thought that giving in completely showed weakness, where he saw it as strength—not only in her but in the trust he’d established.

Understanding her, he’d backed off to give her the time to get comfortable with her own need to submit, knowing that it unsettled her.

Smiling at the thought of how he planned to spend the week—showing his headstrong wife what could be by earning her complete surrender—he walked into their house, his stomach growling at the tantalizing smell of fried chicken.

She’d obviously stopped at the diner to pick up their dinner, and the thought of having his adorable wife for dessert made his cock twitch.

As often as she tried, Hope couldn’t quite figure out the dynamics of cooking and didn’t have the patience to try to learn.

Because of it, she didn’t measure anything and cooked everything on high heat in the hopes of cooking it faster, which led to a lot of food burned on the outside and raw on the inside.

It didn’t matter to him in the least, but he knew it bothered and embarrassed her.

His wife hated showing weakness of any kind, something they both had in common.

Surprised that she didn’t come to greet him as she usually did, Ace hung his hat on the rack by the door. “Hope?”

He removed his boots and set them aside, and when she didn’t answer, he frowned and went in search of her. Finding her in the kitchen mixing coleslaw, he closed in behind her, sliding his arms around her from behind and bent to nuzzle her neck. “Didn’t you hear me?”

He slid his hands under the hem of her soft shirt, finding the skin beneath it even softer.

“I heard you.” Hope continued to stir the coleslaw, not looking up at him. “Did you have a nice day?”

Realizing his wife was in a mood, Ace straightened and went to the refrigerator for a beer, knowing that she would work her way around to whatever bothered her in her own time.

Once she did, he could get on with his plans.

“Yes. You?” After twisting off the cap and tossing it into the trash, he leaned back against the counter to watch her.

Hope shrugged, still not looking at him—a warning side he couldn’t ignore. “It was fine. Logan came home from the hospital.”

Knowing his wife well, he continued to watch her, knowing that it wouldn’t take long for whatever was
wrong with her to come tumbling out.

She’d never been able to hold her feelings in for long.

He took a sip of his beer and continued to watch her. “I know. Still has a headache, but he’s feeling better.” He used his beer bottle to gesture toward the coleslaw. “You gonna beat that to death?”

Shooting him a glare, she tossed the spoon into the sink and went to the refrigerator, shoving the bowl inside. “Dinner’s almost ready. I’m just heating the potatoes.”

Ace finished off his beer and straightened. “Good. I’m gonna go take a shower.”

Hiding a smile, he went to the bathroom, stripping out of his uniform on his way to the shower.

Bracing his hands on the shower wall, he closed his eyes and leaned forward, letting the hot water ease some of the lingering tension of the day.

After several minutes, he straightened and reached for the shampoo, his lips twitching when he saw that, as usual, his wife had joined him.

It had become a ritual for her to sit on the bathroom counter and talk to him as he showered and dressed, a ritual he enjoyed.

“Are you sure you’re all right?”

Ace scrubbed his hair, anticipating the night ahead. “I’m fine, Hope. I spent most of the day doing paperwork.” And clearing his desk in preparation for his vacation.

“It’s been a busy week for you.”

Something in her tone alerted him, so he opened the shower door to see her face, meeting her gaze for the first time since coming home. Noting the defiance in her lifted chin, and the worry in her eyes, he knew what she wanted to talk about. “I know you were worried, but I called you after each incident so that you knew that I was okay.”

Hope blinked, her eyes flashing. “An incident is backing into the mailbox. What you’re referring to are called shootings, Ace.”

Closing the door again, Ace rinsed his hair. “I called you before you could hear about it and worry. Desire’s a small town, and I know word travels fast.”

“Your job is getting more dangerous.”

Ace sighed and continued to wash the sweat of the day away, hating the fear in his wife’s tone. “Danger comes and goes, baby. The job’s the same as it always has been.”

  “It’s been dangerous lately.”

“We’ve had some bad people around. They’re gone now.”

Once he’d rinsed, he turned off the water and opened the door, meeting her gaze as he reached for a towel.

His cock twitched when her gaze settled on it, and he briefly contemplated having his wife before having his dinner.

Hoping to distract her, he swiped the towel over his hair and chest, wrapping it around his waist as he closed the distance between them. “Do you have any idea how much it excites me when you look at me that way and your breath hitches?”

Cupping her jaw, he lifted her chin, satisfied to see the desire in her eyes. “So, how did your blow-job demonstration go today?”

His wife and her sister, Charity, had opened a women’s club in retaliation for the men’s club in town and, because of their determination, had created a lucrative business. They catered to women and had seminars on several sexual topics, including live ones using male submissives and their Dominants—male and female.

Today’s demonstration included teaching how to give a man pleasure, one in which the women practiced on dildos while a Dominatrix and her submissive provided a live demonstration.

The club did better than he’d expected, and he knew his wife enjoyed running it, but he kept a close eye on it, and her—a closer eye than she suspected.

She glared at him as he’d expected, not quite managing to hide her smile. “Funny, Ace. It was a seminar for women to learn how to give their men pleasure. How to touch them. How to use their lips and tongues. How to delay the man’s orgasm.” Her eyes darkened again, partially closing. “And how to arouse him fast and furious.”

Ace smiled at her breathless words and raised a brow. “Like I said…” He brushed his lips over her incredibly soft ones, loving the way she automatically parted her lips and yielded to his kiss.

He’d learned her body well and had trained her to yield to his every touch by rewarding her with the pleasure of submission.

It had taken time, patience, love, and a willingness to do whatever it took to make sure she belonged to him, and he’d enjoyed every minute of it.

Taking her deeper would delight him even more.

He slid his tongue over her full bottom lip, leaning closer to part them wider, inwardly cursing when she suddenly stiffened and jerked back.

Slapping his shoulder, she stared up at him wide-eyed. “How the hell did you know what my seminar was about?” Frowning, she met his gaze. “The calendar on my website just mentioned a seminar. Only those who responded to the RSVP knew what it was about.”

Resigned to waiting until his wife got everything out of her system to take her to the playroom, Ace smiled and straightened. “He was as excited as hell being naked in a room full of women, but not very well trained. Shot his load as soon as she touched him. Didn’t learn that from your website.”

Hope’s eyes widened again. “How the hell do you know what happened?”

Ace smiled, running the back of his finger down her cheek before turning away. He wasn’t about to tell his wife that he spied on her through one of the secret peepholes that had been installed when the club had been remodeled—peepholes that only a select few had keys to.

He and his brother-in-law, Beau, kept close tabs on their wives by using them. “I always know what’s going on in my town. Do you really think I don’t know what’s going on with my wife?”

She followed him into the bedroom, sitting cross-legged on the bed as he dressed. “Your town! Damn it, Ace. Everything is not your fucking responsibility!”

He fastened his jeans and reached into the drawer for a T-shirt, confident in his ability to handle his wife’s temper. “You’re wrong about that. I’m the sheriff of Desire, and keeping law and order is my responsibility.”

Lucas, Devlin, and Caleb had tried to shut him out of their recent case, a case in which they had to protect Stormy James, but he’d made sure to be involved all the way through.

Hope scrambled to her knees, a position that had him thinking about his plans for her. “Ace, you were shot at!”

Struck by the tears in her eyes, he slipped on his T-shirt and crossed to her, knowing that he had to get her calmed down before she drifted into hysteria. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he pulled her onto his lap and began to rub her back. “Baby, I’ve been shot at before, and I’m fine. I’m sure as hell not going to run and hide when there’s trouble.” Lifting her chin, he smiled down at her. “I’m not careless, and I know what I’m doing. I’ve hired good men—men I can trust—to work with me.”

Gathering her close, he pressed his lips to her hair and rocked her. “I hate that you worry so much. I’m damned good at what I do.”

Lifting his head, he stared into her eyes, pushing her hair back from her forehead. “I never take unnecessary chances. I have a beautiful, headstrong wife to come home to.”

Hope stiffened and pushed away from him, getting up from his lap and putting several feet of distance between them. “You’re rich, Ace. You own Tyler Oil with your brothers. You could work with them.”

Raising a brow at the whine in her tone, he rose and started out of the room. “If I had to work there, I’d go out of my mind.”

Following him down the hall to the kitchen, she tugged at his forearm. “Then don’t work at all! You don’t need to.”

Keeping a tight rein on his temper, he shrugged her off and reached into the refrigerator for the pitcher of sweet tea. “Not working at all would make me even crazier.”

“I can’t stand it anymore, Ace! I want you to quit.”

After filling her glass and his, he set the pitcher on the table and slowly turned to her, raising a brow. “Excuse me? Quit what, exactly?”

  Hope swallowed heavily
and set the plate of fried chicken on the table, taking a deep breath before lifting her chin. “I want you to quit your job as sheriff.”

“No.” He went to the refrigerator, retrieved the coleslaw, and took it to the table before looking at her again.

Hope spun, slamming the bowl of mashed potatoes on the table. “No? Just like that?”

Ace inclined his head, keeping his tone calm and controlled. “No. Just like that.”

  “You won’t even discuss it?”

“We just did. You knew what I did when you married me, Hope.”

“You never got shot at before!”

He waited until she dropped into her seat before lowering himself to his. “You’re so naïve, baby. Of course I’ve been shot at before. I’ve even been shot before. It’s part of the job.”

Hope’s eyes went wide. “Well, I never knew about it, and I’m not naïve. I thought the most dangerous thing you ever did was breaking up bar fights. You handle the Dominants from the club, give out tickets, and help round up horses that have escaped.”

After setting a piece of chicken on her plate, he set one on his. “Did you ever ask about my job?”

Lowering her gaze, she shifted restless in her seat, her face flushing. “Well, no.”

“Of course not. You were more interested in making sure that I accepted you as a submissive than learning more about me. I knew you were too young, but your innocence intrigued me, and I found you too irresistible.”

Raising a brow when she gasped, he let his gaze linger on her flushed cheeks before continuing. “You were raised by a mother and three very overprotective fathers who tried to shield you and your sister from the ugly side of life.”

  “Like you do?”

Ace shrugged. “It’s only natural for a man to try to protect his woman, but I’ve never lied to you. I knew who you were when I married you. I knew that you were exactly what I wanted. I love you, but I won’t quit my job, not even for you.”
